CWU Issues Health And Safety Advice During And In The Aftermath Of Flooding

Dave Joyce, CWU National Health, Safety & Environment Officer, has issued advice to the Union’s health & safety reps with regard to the current flooding due to adverse weather conditions throughout the UK.

In his letter to branches (LTB115/14), he deals with the health and safety issues arising from the current flooding that is affecting parts of the UK.

He also points out that:

After the 2007 flooding, a number of fatalities arose, not as a direct result of the floods, but during the clean-up. It is therefore an important issue for any Safety Reps and Union Reps that have workplaces that have been affected by water damage.

Containing a copy of the TUC's advice, the full LTB can be downloaded from this website.

The detailed advice covers a number of aspects of dealing with flood water and the health andf safety implications:

A:        Advice for Union Health and Safety Representatives
B:        After the flooding subsides
C:        Avoiding the Risk of Flood Water contact.
D:        Support for staff
E:        Summary - Flood water hazards, things to be aware
F:        Driving - Cars, Vans and Lorries  -  Flood water hazards

The LTB in full can be downloaded here and from the E-Library Database using search keyword: ‘flooding’
